Peruvian sounds
PERUVIAN SOUNDS--Gabriel Alegria, born in Lima, is one of Peru's most influential figures in jazz, fusing the rhythmic sounds of the black music of the coastal regions with his own personal approach to the trumpet. His six-piece ensemble includes trumpet, saxophone, guitar, bass, percussion, and drums and is appearing in Rochester as part of the group's "4Future Music Tour." The event is cosponsored by the Department of Music in the College and by the Department of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media in the Eastman School. The concert, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, in Strong Auditorium, is free and open to the public. For details, call x5-2828.
