University agrees to settlement

After several months of negotiations, the University (including Strong Memorial Hospital) and its affiliates--Highland Hospital, Visiting Nurse Service, Visiting Nurse Signature Care, the Highlands at Brighton, the Highlands at Pittsford, the Highlands Living Center, Highland Apothecary, Highland Foundation, and Highland Facilities Development Corporation--agreed to settle a lawsuit brought on behalf of hourly employees seeking pay for previously unclaimed time spent working during scheduled breaks or beyond normally scheduled hours over the last seven years.

The settlement and all of its terms--including payouts by all of the employers to employees and plaintiffs' legal fees that total to a maximum of $9.05 million-- are subject to review and approval by the Court. For more details, visit www.rochester.edu/working/hr/FLSA.
