David Lu '06 holds the first-place trophy that heand six other undergraduate computer science students won in the international Computer Science Games competition held last month in Montreal, Canada. Above, from left, the teammembers are Will DeBeaumont '06, David Sloan '06, Harry Glaser '07, Daniel Mullowney '07, Mike Rotundo '06, Tom O'Neill '07, and Lu. The games challenge students from North America, individually and by team, in programming, algorithms, logic, and even video games. Lu described the event as "a nonstop stream of intense competition and socializing. . . . Questions ranged from unobfuscating code to computer-movie trivia to video-game knowledge." Lu says the team was ecstatic when they learned they'd finished in the top spot. "One of the single greatest moments of the competition was walking up to accept the Computer Science Games Cup and having the entire crowd chanting 'Rochester! Rochester!' We plan to return next year to defend our title and keep the cup here at Rochester."
