In Brief

Learn more about T-scores

Several experts from the Medical Center's Osteoporosis Center are participating in a national educational program aimed at helping the public learn more about bone health, early detection, treatment options, and prevention techniques. "Fit to a T" sessions will be held at various locations throughout Monroe County on the remaining Thursdays in May and are open to the public. The Medical Center experts taking part include Susan Bukata, assistant professor of orthopaedics and medical director of the Osteoporosis Center; J. Edward Puzas, Donald and Mary Clark Professor of Orthopaedics and executive director of the center; and Freda Hannafon, a nurse practitioner at the center.

Garage sale fundraiser

The graduating class of the School of Medicine and Dentistry is holding a garage sale on Sunday, May 14, from noon to 4 p.m. in Medical Center Parking Lot A. Proceeds benefit the Class of 2006 Palliative Care Lectureship fund. The students hope to bring national leaders in palliative care to Rochester for a day of lectures to educate members of the community as well as medical professionals. Those who would like to support the effort also can make a monetary gift online at www.stronghealth.com/palliative. For more information, e-mail Rahul Seth at rahul_seth@urmc.rochester.edu.

MAG offers free admission

Bank of America and MBNA cardholders and a guest receive free general admission to the Memorial Art Gallery during May. A photo ID and Bank of America credit card, ATM card, check card, or MBNA credit card must be presented. The gallery is one of more than 50 museums throughout the Northeast participating in this year's program. In addition, the gallery also will offer free admission on Thursday, May 18, as part of International Museum Day, a tradition that began in 1977 and that is observed by museums worldwide.

Summer hours for ID Office

The ID Card Office and Customer Service Center is reducing its hours during the summer and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. The office will be closed on the weekends.

Considering hiring a student?

There are three choices to consider when hiring a student employee:

  • HRMS Form 506/520--Used exclusively for hiring graduate students who receive a stipend and to coordinate information between the Bursar's Office, the hiring department, Payroll, and the Human Resources Service Center.

  • Student Employment--For all full-time, matriculated University students not hired using a 506/520 form. Departments can contact the Student Employment Office at x5-2138 to post a position or visit their Web site at www.rochester.edu/careercenter.

  • Human Resources--Use this option for students who cannot be hired through Student Employment or by using form 506/520. This includes part-time students, nonmatriculated University students, University students who have graduated and will continue to work past May 21, and students from other schools, including co-ops and interns.
