Considered by many to be the world's premier photographic abstractionist, Carl Chiarenza, the Fanny Knapp Allen Professor Emeritus of Art History and artist in residence at the University, works from collages of paper, film, foil, and other materials to create what some have called "landscapes of the mind." Solitudes 325 (2004) (above) is a gelatin silver print by Chiarenza on view beginning June 18 at the Memorial Art Gallery. The photographer will visit the gallery on June 22 to kick off a series of six lectures by artists featured in the second Rochester Biennial.

Through August 31--Sacred Contracts, Myth, and Meaning. A collection of images by photographer Lori Farr that reflects spiritual events surrounding the death of Farr's mother.

Protected for Eternity: The Coffins of Pa-Debehu-Aset

Italian Baroque Organ

Through June 18--Wendell Castle in Rochester. Features furniture and sculpture along with preliminary drawings and photos of some of Castle's corporate and public commissions.

Through July 9--Lee Bontecou: Fifth Stone, Sixth Stone. An unbound portfolio of six etchings with poetry by Tony Towle. On view in the Study Case.

Through July 16--Robert Marx: Considering the Voluntary Absence of God. An exhibition showcasing a portfolio of 26 etchings by the nationally renowned Rochester artist.

Tour: Gallery Highlights--Free with admission. Meet at the admission desk. June 8, 15, 22 at 6:30 p.m.; and June 9, 11, 16, 23, 25 at 2 p.m.

June 9 to 11--Rochester International Jazz Festival. The gallery hosts concerts by the Greater Rochester Jazz Orchestra, June 9; Jazzmatazz--Jazz for Kids, June 10; and the Hays Greenfield Trio, June 11. Free admission. M&T Bank Ballroom, 4 p.m. each day.

June 10, 11, 17, 18--Wendell Castle Video. View Tom Muir Wilson's award-winning film on "The Music Stand," the 1964 work that brought Castle national acclaim. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition Wendell Castle in Rochester. Free with admission. Green Room, 3 p.m.

June 11, 18, 25--Going for Baroque. 25-minute presentation and minirecital on the newly installed Italian Baroque organ. Free with admission. Herdle Fountain Court, 1 and 3 p.m.

June 15--Print Club of Rochester Reception. Join members of the Print Club of Rochester at the opening reception for the club's 2006 exhibition. Free and open to the public. Lucy Burne Gallery, 6 to 9 p.m.

June 17--Exhibition Party. Enjoy live music, entertainment, and a first look at the second Rochester Biennial, an invitational that showcases artists who live and work in the Rochester region. Tickets required; call (585) 473-7720 ext. 3018. 8 to 11 p.m.

June 18--Free Admission Day. Bring a friend to the first day of the Rochester Biennial. Enjoy free admission, a docent-led tour, and an organ recital. While here, pay a last visit to the long-running exhibition Wendell Castle in Rochester, which closes June 18. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Docent-led tours at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.

June 22--Artist Lecture. "Art at 11." Carl Chiarenza kicks off this series of six lectures by artists in the second Rochester Biennial. Coffee and pastries provided, and bag lunches welcome. Tickets required. Bausch & Lomb Parlor, 11 a.m. Exhibition tour follows at noon.
