The Office of the President and the University's Multicultural Recruitment Office are cosponsoring a reception for members of True Networking Thursdays (TNT) and interested members of the University community from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, in the Evarts Lounge of Helen Wood Hall. TNT was established in 1998 as a professional organization to provide social networking opportunities for African Americans in the Rochester area. Four banks and a federal credit union in the Rochester area are offering special incentive programs to University employees who are first-time homeowners or who are selling or refinancing their current homes. The arrangement between the University and its banking partners began in 2003 to help full- and part-time employees through the mortgage process. Special incentives are offered for homebuyers in the city of Rochester, but all housing transactions may qualify for some type of incentive.

The Communications Center for Strong Memorial Hospital is offering hospital staff a new paging option, in addition to operator assisted paging at x5-2222 and automated paging at x5-1616 for standard text and numeric methods. The application, called Web Paging, is available on the Medical Center/ Strong Memorial Hospital intranet home page. Using the online program, staff can page individuals, groups, and those covering for an on-call schedule. They also can utilize a paging directory database maintained by the Communications Center and search by various fields, view a staff member's paging status, page multiple people with the same message, and much more.

As part of ongoing system enhancements, the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) is now accessible via a multipurpose home page at www.rochester.edu/people. In addition to a new look, the site offers access to HRMS documentation such as user guides and training schedules along with details about the retirement program as well as Human Resources news and announcements. Employees can customize the page to display personalized messages, short-cut navigation links, weather updates, and more.
Internationally renowned researcher, psychologist, and educator Phyllis Butow will give a public lecture titled "Talking to Your Doctor about Cancer: Becoming an Active Participant in Care" on Thursday, June 8, at the Strathallan Hotel, 550 East Ave., at
5 p.m. The event, cosponsored by Gilda's Club and the Department of Family Medicine Research Programs, is followed by a reception from 6 to 7 p.m. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling (585) 423-9700.
Butow, a Pfizer Visiting Professor in Health Literacy/Clear Health Communication and professor of psychology at the University of Sydney in Australia, also will present a series of related discussions at the Medical Center. Butow's visit is the result of an educational grant awarded by Pfizer to Ronald Epstein, professor of family medicine and psychiatry and director of the Rochester Center to Improve Communication in Health Care.
The 21st Annual Hackers & Whackers Employee Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, August 1, at Shadow Lake Golf and Racquet Club. The $70 registration fee includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, and prizes. Full teams of four players are required to register, and slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
