POLISHED BRASS--The Eastman School of Music's summer concert schedule
continues through August 5. Highlights include a performance on July 22
at 7:30 p.m. by the Canadian Brass (pictured above), who will be returning
to the Eastman Theatre for the fifth consecutive year, and the tenth annual
Young Artists International Piano Competition during the first week in August
in which piano prodigies from around the world come to Rochester to compete
for Eastman scholarships. This year's featured performers also include members
of Eastman's collegiate faculty, special guest artists, and summer program
participants.
Events scheduled for Monday, July 17 (after 5 p.m.) through Monday, August
14 (before 5 p.m.). All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise
noted.

Through August 31--Sacred Contracts, Myth, and Meaning. A collection
of images by photographer Lori Farr that reflects spiritual events surrounding

Ongoing Exhibitions--
Protected for Eternity: The Coffins of Pa-Debehu-Aset
Italian Baroque Organ
Through August 3--Print Club of Rochester. Founded in 1934,
the Print Club sponsors programs on print collecting as well as printmaking. This
exhibition, held every three years at the gallery, features work by club members.
Through September 10--Second Rochester Biennial. Showcases six
artists who live and work in the region: Carl Chiarenza of Rochester (photography),
Sydney Licht of Rochester (painting), Michael Rogers of Honeoye Falls (glass),
Carol Taylor of Pittsford (quilts), Allen Topolski of Rochester (sculpture), and
Phillia Yi of Geneva (printmaking).
Through October 15--Romanticism and the Politics of Taste. Yearning
for the natural world, longing for the past, and emotional intensity--all are
characteristics of European Romanticism, a general term encompassing many artistic
movements of the late 18th and 19th centuries. This new show includes such varied
works as picturesque landscapes by Turner, eastward-looking works by Gericault,
and the tortured inner visions of Goya. Lockhart Gallery.

July 20--Artist Lecture. "Art at 11." Sydney Licht gives the
fourth of six lectures by artists in the second Rochester Biennial. Coffee and

July 23, 30 and August 6, 13--Going for Baroque. 25-minute presentation
and minirecital on the newly installed Italian Baroque organ. Free with admission.

July 25, 26--Tuesday's Treasures Dropoff Days. The Gallery Council
welcomes tax-deductible donation of gently used furniture, antiques, jewelry,

July 26--Some Are Reading. Five-part summer series that is part
book review, part illustrated lecture, and part group discussion. Rachael Baldanza,
Creative Workshop manager, has chosen The Undressed Art: Why We Draw by Peter

July 27--Tuesday's Treasures Lecture, Reception, and Sale. This
popular annual sale isn't open to the public until tomorrow. But visitors can
hear a lecture by Missing Objects Project founder Martin Murphy, enjoy wine and
hors d'oeuvres, and buy ahead of the crowd. Tickets required. Auditorium, lecture

July 28--Tuesday's Treasures Sale. Don't miss this opportunity

July 17--Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Recital Series: Linda
Dzuris. An assistant professor of music and the first University Carillonneur
at Clemson University, Dzuris performs selections from The Sound of Music as well
as popular music such as Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender" and Henry Mancini's

July 24--Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Recital Series: Charles
Dairay. Dairay studied carillon in France and in the Netherlands and has won several
international competitions. His program includes original compositions for the
carillon as well as arrangements of popular music and of works by Vivaldi, Couperin,
and other classical composers. Lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics welcome. Eastman

July 31--Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Recital Series: Carlo
van Ulft. A native of the Netherlands, van Ulft is currently director and carillonist
of the Centralia Carillon in Illinois. He performs classical music by Sibelius,
Haydn, and Rossini as well as popular contemporary songs like "The Syncopated
Clock" and "The Typewriter." Lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics welcome. Eastman

August 7--Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Recital Series: Doris
Aman. A local resident, Aman will perform University school songs, folk songs,
patriotic songs, popular tunes, and hymns arranged for the carillon. She will
be joined by David Wolfe, who will play trumpet for duet arrangements of "What
a Wonderful World" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics
