Ceremonies kick off the academic year

everal schools will mark the official start of the 2006–07 academic year with convocation ceremonies. The College invites faculty, staff, and students to a formal ceremony on Friday, September 8, at noon on Dandelion Square. The event, which includes presentation of the Goergen Awards (read more on page three), will be followed by a picnic on Wilson Commons Lawn. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in Strong Auditorium, and picnic fare will be served in Wilson Commons.

The School of Nursing is holding its convocation ceremony on Tuesday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to noon in the new Loretta C. Ford Wing of Helen Wood Hall. Ann Horgas, associate professor and associate dean for research at the University of Florida at Gainesville, is the keynote speaker. A luncheon follows in the Evarts Lounge.

The Eastman School marks its official start on Thursday, September 7, with a convocation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall. Interim Dean Jamal Rossi will address the faculty, staff, and students.

Dean David Guzick will preside over the School of Medicine and Dentistry ceremony on Tuesday, September 12, at 4 p.m. in the Class of 1962 Auditorium. President Seligman and Medical Center CEO Brad Berk will speak.
