Run for office, join a club, volunteer . . . . Get involved

There are many opportunities on campus and in the Rochester community for students to be engaged and to make meaningful contributions. Getting involved in the Students' Association (SA) government allows students to have a voice in campus life and to address concerns raised by the student body. In addition to running for office, students can be engaged by sharing their ideas and concerns with elected SA officials and by voting during elections. To learn more, visit www.sa.rochester.edu/studentgov.

If there's an issue or interest you're passionate about and you want to connect with likeminded folks, check out the Campus Club Connection at www.rochester.edu/living/organizations. The Web site, designed with students in mind, includes a calendar of meetings and events, a detailed list of registered clubs, and a resource page that offers tips on how to start a new club.

There are several outlets available to those looking for a way to serve the campus and local community through volunteer outreach efforts. The University's Community Service Network raises awareness of community issues through regular events and projects. The network can guide students in identifying and applying for volunteer opportunities. More details are available at www.sa.rochester.edu/csn.

The Rochester Center for Community Leadership was established in January 2005 as part of the College Dean of Students Office. Its purpose is to develop, coordinate, and promote a variety of programs to connect college students to their community and to encourage them to become engaged citizens and leaders during their college years and in the future. Their message to students: "You are here, this is your community, get involved now." Learn how you can get involved by visiting www.rochester.edu/college/rccl.
