Surf this fall’s sweet lineup

Dear Incoming Undergraduates,

Wilson Commons Student Activities invites you to come out and celebrate the beginning of the academic year in style at Yellowjacket Weekend 2006 on September 8 to 10.

It all starts Friday at noon with the College's Convocation, followed by the Activities Fair on the Wilson Commons lawn featuring more than 200 student organizations as well as music and demonstrations. Our Yellowjacket comedian caps off the evening with a laugh-out-loud performance in Strong Auditorium.

Bring your school spirit and join the fun on Saturday at the tailgate party where you can "pig out" at a Hawaiian style luau, test your skill and try your luck at carnival games, and dance to the music of a very special live band. (Stay tuned for more details.)

Yellowjacket fever is alive and well this year. There are great soccer games right here at home, and you can cheer for the football team as they take on longtime rival St. John Fisher College. Wrap up the evening with a fabulous Fashionably Late night event.

For more information on Yellowjacket Weekend and other fun campus events, check out our Web site at www.sa.rochester.edu/sao.

Hope to see you there!

O’Keeffe on View

October 1 at the Memorial Art Gallery

For seven decades, Georgia O'Keeffe (1887–1986) was a major figure in American art. Remarkably, she remained independent from shifting art trends and stayed true to her own vision, which was based on finding the essential, abstract forms in nature.

The Memorial Art Gallery will be one of only three national venues for a major exhibition of works by the American master. Georgia O'Keeffe: Color and Conservation opens October 1 and remains on view through December. Organized by the Mississippi Museum of Art, the exhibition brings together 25 rarely seen oil paintings—including "Cup of Silver Ginger" (1939) pictured above—and two pastels from all periods of O'Keeffe's prodigious career as well as photographs of O'Keeffe on loan from the International Museum of Photography and Film at George Eastman House. It's the first O'Keeffe exhibition ever in Rochester and also the first to focus on the artist's painstaking choice of color, her studio methods, and her involvement in conservation issues.
