New center caters to emerging biotechs
The University dedicated the new Rochester
BioEnterprise Center on July 24. The 40,000 square feet of office and
laboratory space in Henrietta is designed to nurture emerging biotech
companies by offering business services and cost-effective wet lab
facilities. The center will be managed by High Tech Rochester (HTR), a
nonprofit economic development group. Cancer therapeutics developer
Egenix (picture above), nanomaterials manufacturer NaturalNano, and
University clinical labs have signed on as tenants. The center will be open
to any qualified early stage life science, biotech, chemical,
pharmaceutical, medical, dental, or health service company that needs wet
lab facilities, regardless of its relationship to the University.
Michael Ridelinger, NaturalNano founding president and
HTR consultant, says the center will help small, start-up companies avoid
the steep infrastructure costs that come with setting up a biotech lab and
will provide key business services, such as developing a business plan.
Companies can move in and immediately focus on developing their technology.
“It’s a huge advantage for any emerging biotech company,”
says Ridelinger.
