Register now for Meliora Weekend
The University will celebrate its seventh annual
Meliora Weekend on October 18 to 21. Registration is now open at
www.rochester.edu/melioraweekend and the registration fee is waived for University faculty, staff, and students.
The 2007 line-up includes a keynote address by General
Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) (Palestra seating has reached capacity and
is closed, but more seats are available in Strong Auditorium), the
world premiere of a University-commissioned work by Tony Award-winning
choreographer Garth Fagan, and a lecture, “Freedom vs.
Happiness,” by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.
Meliora Weekend combines traditional events such as
class reunions, Family Weekend, and homecoming with a variety of lectures,
panel discussions, and performances, bringing thousands to campus. The
weekend is also an opportunity to celebrate alumni and individual academic
departments. College classes from 1942 to 2007 and all Simon School classes
will return to campus for reunions. Additionally, the economics and
chemistry departments will celebrate anniversaries, 50th and 75th
respectively, with symposia and other festivities.
