New projects spotlight humanities
By Kathleen McGarvey
The Humanities Project begins its second year this fall with nine new projects that bring a fresh lineup of speakers, films, symposia, courses, conferences, panels, and exhibitions. (See list below.)
Developed to highlight humanities research by Rochester faculty, the Humanities Project is an interdepartmental collaboration. College humanities and humanistic social sciences department chairs select projects in the spring from submitted proposals, and each project is affiliated with one or more undergraduate courses. Events run throughout the academic year and are open to students, faculty, and staff, as well as the Rochester community.
One of the first two events scheduled for this year’s series is a talk by Columbia University philosopher David Albert. He’ll discuss “Philosophy and Quantum Mechanics” as part of the History and Philosophy of Physics project at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 14, in Lattimore 201 on the River Campus.
The second scheduled event is a screening of the film De ida y vuelta (2000) by director Salvador Aguine at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18. The screening, which will take place in Meliora 203 on the River Campus, is part of the Reimagining the Americas project.
