Award recognizes staff dedication, service
Latasha Shaw honored posthumously
President Seligman will honor staff in non-management
positions with an annual award to a staff member who best exemplifies
service to the University or to the greater Rochester community. The $2,500
award will be personally funded by the president.
Latasha Shaw, a 15-year dining services employee who
was fatally stabbed September 29, will receive the first Staff Community
Service Award posthumously. The monetary award will be given to the Latasha
Shaw Foundation.
“Her life was a testament to the value she
placed in helping others,” said Seligman in announcing the award on
December 14. “She was a friend to many at our University, a leader of
the River Campus Chapter of SEIU Local 200 United, a woman of indomitable
courage with great love for her family.”
Each year’s recipient will be selected by a
committee chaired by the associate vice president for human resources at
the University. Most of the committee will be composed of non-management
employees. The $2,500 award is funded by the president. The honoree will be
recognized at the annual employee service awards dinner each spring.
