The Mt. Hope Family Center was recently chosen as one
of three finalists in a national competition that recognizes excellence in
implementing partnerships between community organizations and
researchers.
Organizers of the 2007 Rosalynn Carter Leadership
in Caregiving Award chose Mt. Hope Family Center as a finalist for a
program it created that partners the University, the United Way of Greater
Rochester, the Society for the Protection and Care of Children, and the
Monroe County Department of Human Services.
The program, Building Healthy Children, brings
outreach workers to new mothers to help with the transition to motherhood.
The workers also refer the mothers to the appropriate agencies for those
who need psychological help or vocational, educational, or parenting
training. The program serves women 21 years old or younger who are eligible
for social services support.
Sheree Toth, director of Mt. Hope Family Center, says
the recognition from the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving was a
true honor and that the collaborative program deserved recognition.
“The partnerships that we have developed in the
Rochester community are unique in the nation and do much to foster the
well-being of vulnerable children and families.” she says.
