Health care rates reduced for part-time faculty, staff
sharon.dickman@rochester.edu
The University’s contribution to the health care
costs for regular part-time faculty and staff who meet certain criteria has
changed. A larger contribution will be provided by the University to these
employees’ health care plans beginning January 1.
University leadership has decided to reduce the
costs for part-time faculty and staff who earn $100,000 or less and who
have at least five years of University service.
About 1,000 part-time faculty and staff will receive a
letter from Charles Murphy, associate vice president for human
resources, about the change. “We have heard the concerns of
part-time employees and are making an immediate improvement,” says
Murphy.
The cost reductions for these employees range from $27
per month for single coverage to $83 per month for family coverage. The
revised figures will reduce cost-sharing to these affected part-time
faculty and staff to the same level as full-time faculty and staff who earn
between $40,000 and $100,000.
If impacted part-time employees getting this reduction
want to revise their 2008 health care choices, they may complete a 2008
Open Enrollment Change Form available online at www.rochester.edu/benefits
and return the form to the Benefits Office no later than December 20. The
price improvements will be reflected in their January payroll deductions.
The Office of Human Resources defines a part-time
worker as someone on a regular weekly or monthly schedule that is less than
required for full-time status but generally not less than 17.5 hours per
week in the case of hourly and professional, administrative, and
supervisory staff. For faculty, part-time status indicates that the
individual carries at least half the normal (full) teaching and research
load as defined for faculty by the college or school concerned.
For more details, contact Lori Pierce (275-4636)
or Daniel Gibson (273-3600) in the Benefits Office.
