Your new favorite place to study
Students looking for a great place to spread out their books and study with friends will be happy to learn that the new Collaborative Learning Center in Rush Rhees Library is scheduled to open during Meliora Weekend. Thanks to input from students, the 20,000-square-foot space was designed to be the ideal study area. The new space will offer a unique open design with more natural light, comfy furniture, and plenty of power outlets and wireless capabilities. Students will have access to more resources in the new media lounge and film study room, private rooms for group projects, and a nearby food station. Renovations to the library have been funded from a gift from the Gleason Foundation.

New digs in Wilson Commons
  • New Hive: All of you dedicated gamers and Pump It Up dancers will have a new place to bust a move. The Hive and the arcade have been moved to the first floor (the previous location of the Common Ground café). The New Hive is the place to go for billiards, darts, and vintage video games like Pac Man. The new game room features an Xbox 360, a Nintendo Wii, and the new Pump It Up Dance machine. Throughout the year the Hive will be home to a variety of billiard and gaming tournaments.
  • Starbucks: If you need a little pick-me-up before heading to the Hive, stop by the new Starbucks on the third floor.
  • Common Scents: Need something green for that new dorm room or apartment? Common Scents offers a wide variety of ornamental potted plants, seasonal flowering plants, cut flowers, and a selection of live herbs. It’s located on the first floor.
UHS building to open summer 2008
Work has officially began on the new River Campus home for University Health Service. The 18,000-square-foot building, located next to Susan B. Anthony Halls and Library Road, will bring together all UHS services, including medical care, counseling, health promotion, physical therapy, and the River Campus Medical Emergency Response Team. The idea is to create a central location where students can seek services for a range of health issues with complete confidentiality. The new River Campus location will complement the existing UHS offices at the Medical Center and Eastman, offering students, faculty, and staff three locations for medical services.

Construction is under way on a new undergraduate living community scheduled to be completed in fall 2008. The Riverview Apartments will offer a combination of two- and four-bedroom units. The apartments will accommodate about 400 students and will be fully furnished, with laundry and vending facilities, air conditioning, living room, kitchen, and parking. The apartments are located across the Genesee River pedestrian bridge, just a short walk to campus.
