On the Web, in the dining hall, and around
campus
You’ve got mail
It can be challenging to stay on top of all those
deadlines and important to-dos. A new student e-newsletter launching early
this fall is designed to keep you informed and plugged in to what’s
happening at Rochester. The weekly e-mail will include news updates,
important reminders, and links to campus resources. Look for it this
September.
Web portal coming soon
University Information Technology is partnering with
the College, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing,
Eastman School, and the Warner School to launch a student portal in the
fall. This portal will provide students with easy access to materials for
many of their courses (including their River Campus library electronic
reserves), information about their One Card accounts and transactions,
and for undergraduates of the College, their University e-mail account. It
also will include quick links to many academic and campus
services Web sites and news about upcoming campus events. Look
for more information about my.rochester.edu in the fall.
Download tunes and more
More than 2.75 million songs will be available for
download from Ruckus Network, the University’s new digital
entertainment provider. Students will have access to new music every week,
album reviews, artist spotlights, and interviews. The service is free
for all matriculating undergraduates and graduate students at the
University and Medical Center. Ruckus also offers music transfers to
portable players and video downloads for a fee.
New on the menu
The River Campus will feature some new dining options
this fall. The changes come in response to feedback from
students, faculty, and staff.
“We really do listen to our customers,” says Cam Schauf, director of campus dining services and auxiliary operations. “Our goal is to create different types of destinations to offer people a choice.”

feedback at the Web site or during several open forums that will be
announced this fall.
Getting around just got easier
Starting in September, students can take advantage of
a new bus service. First Transit, a private company that also provides
college transportation services at SUNY Buffalo and Georgia Tech, will
offer more flexible schedules and vehicles tailored to the
University’s transportation needs. The service will gradually
transition routes from the current RTS bus service, beginning with the
Eastman School and Whipple Park on the South Campus. First Transit also
will become the University’s new charter service and offer a range of
buses for 40 passengers or fewer.
