place on Tuesday, August 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Limited
services will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Located in the back of Rush Rhees Library, the IT
Center provides answers to questions about various technologies and
applications. The center is staffed for walk-in and phone assistance from 8

your call the following day.
Students can purchase computers (and more) from
University IT Computer Sales. As an educational reseller, this
on-campus store offers special educational discount programs. Sales staff
can help you make the right choice based on University guidelines and
support. A new retail location will be opening in Rush Rhees in the fall of
2007—Be sure to attend the grand opening event. For advice about
current configurations or the latest technologies, visit
www.rochester.edu/it/css or call (585) 275-8353.
A student’s NetID is the gateway to a variety of
services; including email, online registration, printing, and the
River Campus wireless network. Learn more at www.rochester.edu/it/netid.
Students living in residence halls are provided
on-campus telephone service, free local calling, voice messaging
service, and data communication capabilities and support. Students can
apply for enhanced voicemail and other specialized services, such as
analog or ADA-compliant services. The University also offers competitive
long distance service, including prepaid calling cards and 800 toll-free
access. In addition, the University provides a high-speed data network
accessible from residence halls and across campus, and authenticated
wireless service is available at many academic and public locations. See a
coverage map at the Web address listed above.
University IT operates several public computing
facilities on the River Campus. The IT Center Student Computing Lab is
the largest of these facilities. Visit the Web site for detailed
information on computer labs and classrooms, including hours of operation
and available software.
“Access for Students” is a system that
permits students to access their records, including grade reports,
financial aid details, and billing account statements as well as review the
master course schedule, and course descriptions on the Web. You will need
your University ID and a PIN number, which will be distributed upon
arrival, to enter the site.
During the school year, you can quickly access public
announcements from the University IT Web site. Critical news items and
routine maintenance announcements are listed in “IT
Notices” (upper right corner).
The Federal Trade Commission supports a “Do Not
Call” registry. Students living in campus housing who do not wish
to receive calls from telemarketing agencies may list their campus
telephone numbers using the online registry.
If a computer is connected to the University network,
it could be at risk for attack. University IT provides network
protection, but infections can come from many sources. To learn more about
spam, worms, viruses, identity theft, file sharing, and much more,

Freshman Move-in: August 28
Freshman orientation takes place from August 28 to
September 3. Freshmen should plan to move in on Tuesday, August 28.
Specific move-in instructions, hang tags for parking, and other important
materials will be mailed to freshmen in early August. Check-in, including
distribution of room keys, will take place at the Park Lot location only.
To prevent gridlock, all automobile access to the freshman halls will be
controlled from the Park Lot check-in area. Due to construction, it is
critical that families and students follow move-in instructions carefully.
Please note that students will be assigned a move-in
time based on the distance from their home to the University campus.
Students who live roughly three to four hours from the University may
arrive between 8:30 a.m. and noon. Those traveling from a greater
distance will be permitted to check-in from noon until 4 p.m.
Check-in will remain open until 4 p.m. For those students who arrive after
the official check-in hours due to unforeseen circumstances, an on-call
staff member will be available to check students in. Families arriving by
air will receive information on airport pick-up service from the
Orientation office.
When you receive your move-in instructions, your
parking pass will be color coded to indicate the appropriate move-in
time as well as your living area.
Transfer Student Move-in: August 30
Transfer Student Orientation begins on Friday,
August 31. Transfer students should plan to move in to housing on
Thursday, August 30. Check-in locations/times for transfer students
will be posted at www.reslife.rochester.edu and will be mailed directly
to students in early August.
Upperclass/Returning Student Move-in: August 31

www.reslife.rochester.edu and will be mailed directly to students in early
August.
Early move-in requests
Upperclass students are not permitted to return to

aware that there is a $50 per night charge for early arrival. Requests
for early arrival should be made in advance according to the
