Ensemble wows Kennedy Center
Triple Threat, a jazz ensemble from the Eastman School, gave the capacity crowd at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. , a taste of their unique sound during a concert on May 21. Eastman was a founding participant of the project, which launched in 2004. The semi-annual event presents outstanding artists in classical music, jazz, musical theater, and opera from the nation’s leading conservatories and music schools. Triple Threat is composed of jazz pianists Jeremy Siskind ’08E, Matthew Valerio ’08E, and Chris Ziemba ’08E, joined on stage by Jesse Breheney ’08E on bass and Dave Tedeschi ’08E on drums. The musicians, all of whom graduated from the Eastman School last month, have been coached by pianist Harold Danko, chair of the Department of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media. “The guys played at their peak and were really enthusiastic,” says Danko. “Triple Threat is a quintet of outstanding young musicians that manages to treat its audience to three jazz piano trios—each one distinct and very musical. Through it all, their talent and friendship shines, and Eastman is well represented.”
