Matthew Burns, who has served since October as acting dean of students, has been named the new College dean of students at the University. His appointment was approved by the Board of Trustees at the May 16 meeting.
Burns became acting dean when Jody Asbury stepped down as dean after serving in that position for six years. Dean of the College Richard Feldman says that though the search for the new dean of students was national in scope, Burns’s “excellent” performance both as associate dean for six years and as acting dean made it clear that he was the best choice for the position.
“Matt has shown himself to be an excellent administrator,” Feldman adds. “He likes and respects students, he is extremely fair-minded, and he stays calm and is effective in difficult circumstances. He is very well-prepared to succeed as our new dean of students.”
