New Home for Center for Community Health

The Medical Center opened the doors of a new home for its community-based health initiatives on October 21. The Center for Community Health’s new location at 46 Prince Street marks a return to the original University campus and consolidates several outreach and research programs into a single site that is more accessible to the community. The location also includes a new health resource that connects community members via Web-conferencing to librarians at the Medical Center. Halloween Scare Fair

The 10th annual Libraries’ Scare Fair will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Friday, October 31, in Rush Rhees Library. The event will include music and dance entertainment from 2-4 p.m. in the IT Center and cider and donuts in the lobby. The costume contest at 4 p.m. features prizes for Scariest, Most Creative, Best Bang for the Buck, Best Group, and more.

Finance Department Offers Training Sessions

The Finance Department is offering two fall training sessions. The first session is Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the Gowen Room, Wilson Commons. The second runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, at the Medical Center. For more details, www.rochester.edu/adminfinance/finance.

Donations Wanted for Charity Auction

School of Medicine and Dentistry students are accepting donations for a charity auction to benefit Alternatives for Battered Women on November 7 in Sarah Flaum Atrium. A wide range of items may be donated, including gift cards or services. Drop off items or send donations to the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Attn: CACHED Office, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Box 601, Rochester, NY 14642. Changing Nature of Innovation

Paul Horn ’74 (PhD), distinguished scientist in residence at New York University, will give a lecture about the rapid pace of innovation and change taking place globally at 4 p.m., Thursday, October 30, in Goergen Hall Fantone Room 109. Horn is the former vice president for research at IBM Corp. The lecture, free and open to the public, is cosponsored by the College Deans’ Office, the Department of Physics, and the Department of Computer Science. Coat Drive to Help Those in Need

Student National Medical Association at the Medical Center is partnering with Refugee Student Alliance to hold a coat drive at Strong Memorial Hospital. The students are accepting donations of gently used coats, sweaters, gloves, hats, and scarves. Drop-off items at student services (G-7644) at the Medical Center, the entrance to Miner Library, and near the condiments station at the hospital’s main cafeteria on the first floor.
