Celebrating University Authors and Their Works
On May 7, the second annual “Celebration of the ‘Book’” will honor the faculty and staff members who have authored a book—or its equivalent—during the previous year. The event is an opportunity to bring together scholars and scientists from across the University and to “create a sense of community,” says Provost Ralph Kuncl, who has spearheaded the project. Last year’s inaugural event did just that, adds Kuncl. Bards and biologists, mathematicians and musicians gathered to sign copies and discuss the more than 50 works published by University authors during the previous year—from a treatise on quantum optics to a study of Congress to an opera recording. Go to www.rochester.edu/provost/annualbookcelebration.html for more information on how to submit a book, edited volume or series, or CD published between May 1, 2008, and April 30, 2009. This year’s celebration will be held on Thursday, May 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room of Rush Rhees Library.
