Also on Sunday, Rep. Louise Slaughter, a 12-term member of Congress, will deliver the Commencement address during the Arts, Sciences, and Engineering ceremony.

More than 2,200 graduates will earn degrees during Commencement Weekend, May 15 to 17, with President Seligman presiding at each degree ceremony.

At the College ceremony, Slaughter will be presented with the George Eastman Medal, which recognizes individuals who, through their outstanding achievement and dedicated service, embody the high ideals of the University. Chair of the House Committee on Rules, Slaughter is the first woman to hold that influential post. She is one of five distinguished guests receiving the medal this spring. Also during the morning ceremony on the Eastman Quadrangle, Perez, who since 2003 has led Kodak’s transition from traditional film to a business based primarily on digital technologies, will be awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree. Throughout his career, Perez has forged innovations in imaging and printing for consumers and commercial customers.

Seaman will receive an honorary doctor of music degree during the Eastman School’s 11:15 a.m. ceremony in Eastman Theatre. Looking ahead to his 12th season with the RPO, Seaman has advanced the symphony’s reputation and forged strong bonds between the RPO and the greater Rochester community during his tenure. Mark Volpe ’79E, managing director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, will deliver the Commencement address at Eastman.

Among the others being recognized during the weekend are Clifford Kubiak ’80 (PhD) of the University of California at San Diego and Barbara Sinclair ’70 (PhD) of the University of California at Los Angeles. Both will receive the Rochester Distinguished Scholar Medal, an honor given to recognize graduate alumni who have gone on to distinguished careers in academia, industry, government, the arts, and other fields.
