Employee pharmacy debuts
Medical Center facility aims to make prescription-filling more convenient and more affordable for University staff
The Medical Center’s new pharmacy, dedicated exclusively to University employees, retirees, and their families, opened last month.
Located on the first floor, Room 1-5100, near the orange elevators in the space that was previously occupied by Audiology/Speech Pathology, the new pharmacy is staffed with two pharmacists and four technicians. It also has one high-tech worker: a robotic assistant that helps fill prescriptions, navigating more than 200 medicines, and counting capsules and tablets with its electric eye and mechanical arm.
There are four parking spots in the Crittenden Loop reserved for employees and retirees making pick-ups.
The new pharmacy also could mean savings for employees and their families who are enrolled in University Health Care plans.
Employees enrolled in the HSA-Eligible plan will receive a discount off the usual out-of-pocket cost of each medicine (prior to reaching their deductible); employees who are covered by the three-tier co-pay structure under the University Health Care plans will receive a 25 percent reduction in co-pays. The pharmacy can also fill 90-day supplies of maintenance drugs (that are currently filled by mail-order service) at a similarly discounted price.

To transfer existing prescriptions to the employee pharmacy, complete the transfer form and patient information form available online at http://intranet.urmc-sh.rochester.edu/depts/employeepharmacy/ (bring the forms to the secure drop box located outside the new pharmacy, or fax them directly to 276-2600.)
The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. To refill a prescription or speak with a pharmacy staff member, call 276-3900.
