Nearly 100 University employees working in finance and human resources are in the midst of relocating to brand-new office space at Brooks Landing, the growing area of new development near the corner of Brooks Avenue and Genesee Street in southwest Rochester.

The new building joins the Staybridge Suites Hotel, part of the Holiday Inn group with extended stay options for guests, and Boulder Coffee at the Brooks and Genesee intersection. Riverview Apartments, a housing complex for undergraduates leased by the University on South Plymouth Avenue, is located about three blocks away.

By Monday, May 18, most offices of the Finance Department and University Controller Doug Wylie will fill the second floor of 910 Genesee St., an office building developed by Christenson Corp. of Minneapolis. Several Office of Human Resources operations, including the walk-in Employment Service Center, will be located on the first floor. In total, the University is leasing 20,000 square feet of space.

“The University sees great value in working near our neighbors and local businesses while still remaining close to campus,” says Ronald Paprocki, senior vice president for administration and finance. “Community organizations in the southwest are working nonstop to bring more businesses and residents to the area.”

This is the first time that University employees will be based in southwest Rochester, just across the Genesee River from the River Campus. Most of the relocated employees moved from the University-owned Towne House at Mt. Hope and Elmwood avenues.

“We’re doubling the size of our lobby for people who are searching for staff positions,” says Kathy Miner, manager of the Employment Service Center. Much of the job-search experience happens online, but face-to-face interaction is a necessity. A large parking lot for visitors and staff is located in the rear of the building.

The developer of 910 Genesee St. is working with Rochester businesses and national companies, including restaurants, to lease the final 8,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor.
