Students lend a helping hand
More than 800 Rochester freshmen volunteered at 42 of Rochester’s nonprofit organizations during the 21st annual Wilson Day on Monday, Aug. 31. Wearing T-shirts with the city’s 175th Anniversary logo, the incoming class volunteered with faculty and staff at local schools, churches, community agencies, and neighborhoods. Participants got a glimpse of the many community service opportunities available in Rochester and learned about the city’s history through walking tours and a scavenger hunt. Above, freshman Alex Ma (center) from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., helps sort donated clothing at Wilson Commencement Park, the annual day of community service for incoming Rochester students. He is joined by Oscar Young from Cleveland, Ohio (left) and Aaron Levi from West Caldwell, N.J.
