Support available for research projects

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Laboratory Support Center announces the availability of laboratory cost support for research projects. Up to $50,000 for laboratory costs for pilot data, supporting data, or data needed to complete an initial study will be provided. The Laboratory Support Funding RFA is now available. University press celebrates 20 years

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the University of Rochester Press, Provost Ralph Kuncl notes in a memo to the University community. To celebrate, copyright law and publishing expert Stanford Thatcher launches this year’s Neilly Lecture series with a talk on the promises and pitfalls of free online access to scholarly books at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Hawkins-Carlson Room of Rush Rhees Library. Also, as part of the anniversary, a 25 percent discount is offered to the University’s faculty, staff, and students until the end of the year. Use promotion code #9281. In addition, an array of the organization’s books will be on display in the Freidlander Lobby of Rush Rhees Library this month.

Simon School releases iPhone application

Assistant director of fraternity and sorority affairs named

John DiSarro has been named to the newly created position of assistant director of fraternity and sorority affairs in the Office of the Dean of Students. DiSarro will work closely with the University’s recognized fraternities and sororities to develop programs that align themselves with the mission of the College and the standards of the Expectations for Excellence program.

DiSarro, a native of Bethlehem, Pa., joined fraternity and sorority afairs in 2007 as a graduate assistant while he pursued a master’s degree from the Warner School. During his assistantship, he supported programming initiatives for 30 undergraduate organizations and coordinated student participation in annual conferences.

Mt. Hope Family Center launches new Web site

Mt. Hope Family Center, the University’s research and treatment program for at-risk children and families, has launched a new Web site at www.psych.rochester.edu/MHFC. Read about the center and its 30th anniversary symposium on trauma scheduled for Nov. 12 and 13.

5K Run/Walk on River Campus

Register to walk or run at the annual Shamrock 5K Run/Walk hosted by Kappa Delta Sorority. This year’s event features a kid’s half-mile fun run, free barbeque, and massages. Employee Health and Wellness Fair

The Benefits Office and Well-U will sponsor a Health and Wellness Fair from September 22 to 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sarah Flaum Atrium at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Sign up for yoga, take advantage of free biometric screenings, or talk with health, fitness, and wellness specialists, who will be on site with information and activities designed to improve health. Volleyball and soccer leagues forming

Looking for a great way to blow off steam, get fit, and hang out with friends on a weeknight? Register for the Medical Center’s indoor intramural volleyball or soccer leagues.
