University to offer online courses through Coursera
Filming is under way for John Covach’s History of Rock course.
As part of its exploration of online education, the University has announced a partnership with Coursera, a well-known massive open online course provider.
The University and 28 other universities have joined 33 schools already associated with Coursera. Rochester has made a commitment to provide three or more courses through Coursera.
The intent is to share more broadly the University’s expertise and to increase visibility for the University and the programs offered, says Rob Clark, senior vice president for research and dean of the Hajim School.
Rochester will offer three courses: History of Rock with John Covach, the Mercer Brugler Distinguished Teaching Professor, chair of the College Department of Music, and professor of music theory at the Eastman School; Confronting the Big Questions: Highlights of Modern Astronomy with Adam Frank, professor of astrophysics; and Fundamentals of Audio and Music Engineering with Mark Bocko, professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Clark.
