"We, the Minority Male Leadership Association, are dedicated to exploring the characteristics of successful minority male leaders. We will build a community of young driven minority men focused on success by providing mentorship and promoting excellence.”
Minority Male Success
SymposiumOn Sunday April 21st, 2013, MMLA will have its first scheduled symposium event. With the theme “Connect for Success” the day is designed to be a dynamic and productive forum focused on better understanding the obstacles leading up to success in young minority men and providing positive male role models. Please join us at the Simon Graduate School of Business for this free half day event.
We have gained support from other student groups,
departments, community individuals that will help secure our guest speaker- Dr.
Timothy Benson (URMC Alum) for the 1st Annual
Symposium. Dr. Benson engages others to
overcome unrecognized challenges towards achievement. He was raised in a single
parent home in the Midwest, and was motivated to be scholar-athlete where he
was awarded a football scholarship to Hampton University. Thereafter, he
matriculated into medical school at the University of Rochester School of
Medicine where he took on the rigors of the curriculum and being the first
doctor in his family. During his tenure, his mother also became ill and after
being on the verge of dropping out, Dr. Benson turned things around. Through
this humbling experience, Dr. Benson was determined and graduated from medical
school and was accepted to Harvard’s psychiatry residency program. Now he is a
member of the Harvard Medical School faculty, and his practice works with
high-profile athletes and entrepreneurs in fostering resilience. He also has an
interest in students helping them understand the dynamics of being the first in
the family to reach certain social, economic, and educational milestones. http://drtimothybenson.com
Mr. Benson’s motivational speech will be open to the public.
