For almost a decade, Fair Trade certification in South Africa converged with the post-apartheid state's Black Economic Empowerment program. Alison Montgomery, Frederick Douglass Institute predoctoral fellow, will discuss how this experiment changed the Fair Trade movement, contributed to South African agrarian reform, and affected farm worker empowerment.
