Provost’s Fellowships

The goal of these fellowships is to broaden and increase the diversity of our graduate students in doctoral programs by attracting the most promising students from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in a particular discipline. Nominees for the fellowships must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Specific criteria for determining diversity and selecting nominees will depend on each program, but may include ethnicity, race, gender, or disabilities.

The Provost's Fellowships are intended to attract the most promising students from a department's applicant pool to our doctoral programs. These students will receive a full tuition scholarship and a fellowship at least $1,000 to $2,000 higher than the department's normal stipend for five years.

Nominations from departments for the Provost's Fellowships are solicited by the University Dean of Graduate Studies. A faculty panel evaluates the nominations, and the University Dean of Graduate Studies selects the Provost's Fellows on the basis of these evaluations.
