Say No to Hate and Fear

The role of the judicial officer, dean, or department chair is to:

  • Review the results of the Security investigation and contact the complainant, the accused, and relevant witnesses.
  • Determine if there is reason to believe that a violation of University policy has occurred.
  • Confront the accused with the charges. If the accused accepts responsibility, the Judicial Officer may make an administrative determination of disciplinary sanctions or may refer the case to a hearing officer or panel depending on the nature and the severity of the circumstances.
  • If the accused does not accept responsibility, may refer the case to mediation or to a hearing officer or panel for resolution.
  • Confer with the Committee on Inclusion and Diversity regarding possible disciplinary responses and/or other actions.
