Say No to Hate and Fear

The University Community

The University of Rochester is committed to encouraging an open, diverse, and pluralistic community of learning, one that demonstrates respect for all persons.  Expressions of racism, homophobia, bigotry, and discrimination are destructive to this endeavor and are not acceptable in this environment.  Any act of intolerance directed at one individual or to members of a group based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or disability diminishes every member of the community.  Ultimately, every individual must share the responsibility for making individual and collective choices to counter and refute such expressions whenever they occur.  Acts of intolerance must be actively opposed at every opportunity.

Acts of intolerance and discrimination are prohibited by the University's Harassment and Discrimination Policy.  Violations will be fully investigated and subjected to the entire range of disciplinary sanctions as contained in the Student Code of Conduct, the Faculty Handbook, and the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.  Information about the University's Harassment and Discrimination Policy is published in the brochure Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, which is available by contacting the University Intercessor's Office at 275-9125 and at www.rochester.edu/diversity.
