On Nov. 13, the Office for Faculty Development and Diversity will host a half-day conference, “Creating an Inclusive Research Climate,” from noon to 5 p.m. The keynote speaker is Roger Worthington, a noted scholar of psychology at the University of Missouri and editor of the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. Breakout sessions will be on the themes of the legitimacy of diversity-related scholarship, gaining inclusion into the “canon,” and research subject recruitment.
January is Mentor Month
Allan G. Johnson is a sociologist and a writer who has worked on issues of gender inequality and patriarchy. He writes about the reality of patriarchy, gender oppression, and white privilege in ways that avoid cycles of individual guilt and blame. Our goal for Dr. Johnson's visit is to help the University move along the continuum from diversity and cultural competence efforts toward anti-racism and anti-oppression actions for social change.
