Event: Eastman Celebrates the Musical Legacy of Gerry Niewood

Location: Eastman School Theatre (Kodak Hall)

Date: Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Time: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Eastman Jazz Ensemble, directed by Bill Dobbins
Eastman New Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dave Rivello

With special guests Chuck Mangione, Lew Soloff, Pat LaBarbera, and Adam Niewood

The first jazz concert in Kodak Hall will be an unforgettable celebration of the life and music of Gerry Niewood - Rochester native, Eastman alum, and the original lead alto sax of the Eastman Jazz Ensemble under its first director, Chuck Mangione.

Jazz greats and Eastman alumni Chuck Mangione and Lew Soloff will join saxophonist Pat LaBarbera and Eastman's jazz bands to honor the legacy of their friend and colleague. Also performing will be Gerry's son Adam, a rising star on the New York City jazz scene. New arrangements of some of Gerry's last and unpublished compositions will highlight the evening's program.
