Graduate Student Conference Fund Application
GOG is pleased to announce up to $300 in funds (per application) to help graduate students present at conferences. The fund is administered by the Forum Committee and is available to a maximum of eight students per academic year. A maximum of four students will be awarded each semester from the department list below:
The College, Arts and Sciences
Biology, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Chemistry, Computer science, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Clinical and Social Psychology and Visual and Cultural Studies
The College, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science,
Mechanical Engineering, Optics
The actual number of awards may be adjusted according to the buget every year. Only two students from the same department may be funded in the same year and each student may only be funded once per calendar year.
The GOG fund will help defray:
» Transportation costs to and from the conference venue
» Conference registration and/or membership dues required to present
at the conference
» Miscellaneous costs required to present
GOG will choose awardees based on the quality of their abstracts and the degree to which the conferences they are attending support their professional development. Each applicant’s materials will be read by at least 3 reviewers in related/relevant fields before award decisions are made.
To be eligible for GOG conference funding you must be currently paying your graduate student activities fee (i.e. you are not eligible for funding if you have requested a refund of your fees for the applicable academic semester/year or if you are out of residence).
To apply for funding, write to the Forum Committee Chair Shujing Wang [swang11(at)mail.rochester.edu] by October 30 (fall semester), or February 28 (spring semester).
Be sure to include:
» A copy of your CV
» A copy of your accepted conference abstract
» GOG funding application form in Word or .rtf format (no PDFs, please)
