Information on Forums and Officer Positions
Speaker Acts as the liaison between university administration
and faculty, and graduate students of the College, bringing forward
graduate student concerns to the attention of university
administration and/or faculty. The GOG Speaker also sits in on some
GOG Committee meetings and organizes Officer elections at the start of
the academic year.
Social Committee Chair Organizes social events which are a fun break from regular work, and also allow graduate students from different departments to meet and get to know one another. Past events have included: wine & cheese events, skiing, ice skating, a canal boat cruise, bowling, and salsa dancing lessons.
Forum Committee Chair Fosters discussion between graduate students concerning topics that cross disciplinary boundaries. The Forum Committee hosts workshops, seminars, discussion panels and invited speakers. In the past, the Forum Committee co-sponsored conferences on womens' studies, epistemology, and film studies.
Advocacy Committee Chair Works for material change that will benefit all graduate students. In the past, the Advocacy Committee has sent a student to D.C. to lobby for tax reform at the national level, worked to improve the bus service, and helped to keep health care costs low.
Treasurer The Treasurer's role is to oversee the budgets of GOG and its
Committees, liaise with the university GOG administrator and to
process requests for reimbursement submitted by GOG officers and
representatives for approved GOG events and meetings. The Treasurer
also handles GOG refund requests.

Meetings and distributes the minutes to the GOG Webmaster and its
Officers and/or the graduate student population (as applicable). The

student population via the college_grads mailing list. The Secretary
is also in charge of card access requests to the GOG lounge.

hosted applications (forums, photo gallery, etc.). In addition, he/she solicits
information and resources from other officers and UR students for inclusion in the website.
