Changes Made to Wireless Services
As part of the University’s efforts to secure network resources on the River Campus, University IT has introduced changes to its wireless services. Current faculty, staff, and students have two primary options
to connect to the wireless network: UR_RC_InternalSecure (enter the
service passphrase URWireless when prompted) and UR_RC_DomainAuth.
Guests can use the UR_RC_Guest connection, which includes limited
bandwidth and access to the Internet. Contact the IT Center at UnivITHelp@rochester.edu or 275-2000 for assistance.
University Joins WasteWise Partnership
The
University has joined the more than 2,000 other members of the
Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise program in an effort to help
reduce waste output.

Tips for Protecting Your Cell Phone or PDA
As cell phones and PDAs become more
technologically advanced, attackers are finding new ways to target
victims. Protect yourself:
be careful about posting your cell phone number and e-mail address, be
wary of links or downloadable software sent in e-mail or text messages,
evaluate your security settings, and encrypt your device if it contains
sensitive data.
Rochester in the News
'Five Years and Counting for Joel Seligman at UR'
Democrat and Chronicle (July 25)

In Higher Education
'Economy Slows Colleges' Ability to Hire and Delays Retirements'
Chronicle of Higher Education (July 25)
Evidence that the most recent economic downturn is having a noticeable effect on the retirements of older professors is still largely anecdotal, but the issue is very much on the minds of administrators and individuals.
