Options for reporting

small stop sign You can file a Proxy Report. This can be done by talking to any member of the University's Sexual Assault Response Team, or any other faculty or staff member including Security. This is an anonymous report maintained by the Sexual Harassment Intercessor, that does not contain your name or any other identifying information. If the report indicates, Security will release a warning to protect the community while safeguarding your privacy.

small stop sign Regardless of whether you report the assault to the police, you should report the case to the University. If the assailant is a University of Rochester student, you can go to the Dean of Students Office or to Security. You have the option of having an informal discussion with the dean, a meeting of all parties, or an Administrative Hearing.

small stop sign To pursue formal criminal charges, you can report sexual assault to the Rochester Police Department. A police officer will take a brief statement, and then contact the Investigative Unit. If you choose to pursue the criminal process, an assistant district attorney will follow your case to completion. The University's Victim's Assistance Coordinator will guide you through the court system.
