Survivors of sexual assault choose to report the crime for many reasons
They want to feel that the assailant cannot just get away with the crime.
They are afraid that the assailant will come back.
They are worried that they will run into the assailant on campus, in class, in the residence hall, or at work.
They want the campus crime statistics to show how widespread sexual assault is, so that more will be done to prevent it.
They feel that it helps them to regain a sense of control over the situation.
They hope that the assailant will be caught and disciplined so that other people will be safe on campus.
