Student, faculty and staff email accounts are provided by University IT. This email page is designed to help students and professionals find answers to common email questions on topics including forwarding, mailing lists and spam handling.

UR's student email service is available to all undergraduates, as well as Eastman graduate students. You can find full details on this service at our URgmail page.

Most College faculty and staff have email accounts on the Unix server (mail.rochester.edu). Staff of the University's Central Administration typically have accounts on the Microsoft Exchange server. University IT provides email accounts to approximately 10,000 individuals throughout the University community.

New Students/Employees: New students will receive information about their email account via postal mail prior to their arrival at the University. More Info

Hiring departments are responsible for account setup for new employees. If you need to request an account, use either of the following forms, depending on your department:

College Departments (ITSF-046)
Administrative Departments (ITSF-026)

Graduate Student Information: The University/College does not generally provide free email accounts for graduate students. Some departments or graduate schools do provide email accounts for grad students. See the administrator of your department or grad school for more information.

Other types of Accounts: For Class Accounts, please contact the IT Center at 275-2000.

New Email Service (Zimbra) FAQ: A steering committee consisting of members from academic departments, the Registrar's office, University IT and the deans' offices have chosen Zimbra, Yahoo's enterprise-level on-premise email service, as the replacement email service for Arts, Sciences & Engineering.
