Connecting from Off Campus

There are several ways in which University of Rochester students, faculty and staff can access their email messages from off campus. Email can be accessed through the web or via email clients.

To access mail via the web: Users with mail.u.rochester.edu accounts can access webmail at the following link:

Webmail (mail.u.rochester.edu)

Users with Exchange accounts can access their messages via webmail at the following link:

Webmail (Exchange)

To access mail via email client: Users can access their UR email messages through an email client (such as Outlook or Entourage) by setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN). VPN allows users to access University restricted materials (in this case, email messages) through a secure connection. For more information on setting up a VPN from off campus, visit the following link (Note: you will need an Internet connection to do this):

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Important Note: Email clients must be configured for POP over SSL (setup instructions) in order to access UR email. When off campus, however, the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP Server) must match the Outgoing Mail Server of your Internet Service Provider. If you do not know your ISP's SMTP server, consult their company website.

For more information or clarification about email forwarding, contact the IT Center at 275-2000.
