Circulating Book Display Advocates Information Security

Posted on January 21, 2013 by willgraver

Located near the Circulation Desk on the first floor of Rush Rhees Library are the circulating display shelves, which feature a different thematic book exhibit every month. From early January to February 15, the display will showcase non-fiction and fiction books all concentrating on the theme of information security.

This month’s theme includes titles chosen by the IT Security Awareness team and focuses on topics such as identity theft, online security, hackers, social networking and many more. The goal for this display is to heighten awareness of information security through instructional and entertaining means.  The books included in the display range from fictional novels such as “Broken Window” by Jeffrey Deaver to non-fiction titles like “Protecting Your Internet Identity” by Ted Claypoole.

Started in 2011, the circulating display has been an effective tool for the library to promote unique topics, such as banned books, University of Rochester authors, and Women’s History Month. According to Mari Tsuchiya, Senior Library Assistant at Rush Rhees Library, “Nowadays many faculty, staff and students do not have the time to go into the stacks and browse the books. The library wanted to show how diverse and extended our collection is and it has been extremely helpful to have a theme to gain attention and promote our books.”

University faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to check out any of the books in this collection.
