How to set up Exchange Active Sync on your mobile device
In order to receive email on your mobile device, you will need to register it. To do this, you will need to log in to the myIdentity portal at https://myidentity.rochester.edu/. Once you are logged in, click "Request Account", click "Mobile Device Registration", enter your information and click "Request Account". You will receive an email confirmation. Some users, in "high risk" areas are required to be managed with a Mobile Device Management application and will receive different instructions when they register their mobile devices.
It could take up to
15 minutes for Active Sync to be enabled on your account. If you still cannot
access your email after 30 minutes, please

You will first need to remove your University Exchange email account from your device.
- For iOS, this can be accomplished through Settings/Mail, Contacts,
Calendars. Click your previous installation of your Exchange email and
click "Delete Account".
- For Android, go to Settings, Accounts & Sync, select the account and Remove Account.
- For Windows Mobile, go to Settings, email+accounts, select the outlook account and tap the "X" to delete the account.
Once you have removed your University Exchange email, you can proceed with instructions for your mobile device type:
Configure your iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch
- On the home screen of your device, tap the Settings icon.
- Tap the Mail, Contacts, Calendars icon
- Tap the Add Account icon
- Tap the Microsoft Exchange option
- Enter your Exchange email address in the 'Email" field
- Enter your password in the the "password" field
- Enter UR Exchange in the description field
- Tap Next
- The device will try to verify the Exchange server
- Enter email.ur.rochester.edu in the Server field
- Enter UR in the Domain field
- Enter your Active Directory Username in the Username field (the username used to access your email)
- Tap Next
- It should then verify all fields.
- On the Synchronization screen, set your preferences. Tap Save and you are done.
Configure your Android Device
Keep in mind there are many different versions of Android. These exact steps may not match your device; however, the settings are consistent.
- On the home screen of your Android device, tap the Applications icon
- Tap Settings
- Tap Accounts & Sync
- Tap Add Account
- Tap Corporate
- Enter your email address and password in the appropriate fields
- Tap Next
- In the "Domain\Username" field, type UR\Username (the username used to access your email)
- Enter your password in the "Password field"
- Enter email.ur.rochester.edu in the "Server" field
- Check "Use secure connection (SSL)
- Tap Next
- Adjust your Email checking frequency and Amount to Synchronize to your liking by putting a checkmark for which ever options you would like
- Send email from this account by default.
- Notify me when email arrives
- Sync contacts from this account
- Tap Next
- Set the account name to UR Exchange
- Under "Your Name" put in your full name
- When you are finished, tap Done.
Configure your Windows Mobile Device
- Go to Settings/email+accounts
- Tap add an account
- Tap Outlook
- In the Account name line enter UR Exchange
- In the user name field enter your username (the username used to access your email)
- Enter your password in the Password line
- Enter UR in the Domain line
- Enter email.ur.rochester.edu in the Server line
- Verify the box for "Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection is checked
- Tap the check box to complete
