Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

Important Information about your VPN account

VPN uses NetID for authentication. You must log in to our secure VPN page to download the proper client and acquire setup instructions.

What is Virtual Private Network (VPN)?

VPN is used to access University restricted resources from off campus using a secured connection over the Internet. VPN connections are generally established for one of the following purposes:

Accessing restricted library resources

Most library resources are available from off campus without VPN.  Off-campus library website users will be prompted to login with a username and password, then linked directly to the requested resource. Only a few library resources, such as Naxos and streamed media require VPN access.

Remote "POP-over-SSL" email access

** In light of recent computer security threats, it has become necessary to increase the security of your connection to the mail system. As a result, "regular" POP access to email was turned off effective June 1, 2005. If you use Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail, or Entourage to read your email and have your program configured to access your account using POP, your email can be set to a higher level of security by enabling SSL. SSL will greatly enhance privacy by protecting your connection to the email server.
