For the UR community:
Symantec has raised their alert status to orange (3), which indicates that an event is currently underway.
ISS has also raised their Internet Threat Level to Blue (2), which indicates increased vigilance. Both of
these are due to the latest variant of MyDoom that is spreading through the Internet. More information on
the worm can be found at
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_MYDOOM.M&VSect=T. This worm should not
affect systems whose pattern files are up to date as of this afternoon. It should be noted that SANS's
alert is still at green, which is their lowest level.

All Season Advice:
If you have any questions, you can call the ITS Center @ 52000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Always keep your system up-to-date with patches. The various software makers usually keep a web-site up for their customers to update software. Microsoft's main site is at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
- Make sure your anti-virus protection is up-to-date. If you are using the University provided TrendMicro AV software, you should already be protected.
