04/23/10 14:30: Phishing Scam Targeted at users

It has come to our attention that users were targeted by a phishing scam earlier today. The email message claims to come from “NetID Administrator” with the subject “Your Webmail Account is Compromised” or something similar. It asks you to click on a link in the message to verify your account activity.

If you received this email, please delete it immediately. DO NOT click on the link. If you have already clicked on the link contained in the email, please contact the IT Center at (585) 275-2000 (option 4) or send an email to for further instructions.

Always be skeptical of messages that ask you to click on a link, especially if it claims your account has been compromised or you need to verify your account. When in doubt, always contact the organization by phone to verify that the message is legitimate. For more information, contact the IT Center or visit the University IT Information Security web page.

Thank you,
