University IT Supported Hardware - Macintosh

University IT classifies computer hardware into 3 categories: No Upgrade Required, Upgrade Recommended, and Upgrade Required. Level of support is determined by the category that your computer is in. The 3 categories are defined as:

No Upgrade Needed

Computers in this category, which are fully supported, have a minimum of 512 megabytes(MB) of memory (1 GB recommended) running OS 10.3.9 or above.

Upgrade Recommended

While we recommend an upgrade in the near future, computers in this category will be supported provided they are equipped with a G5 Processor and minimum of 512 MB of memory and are running OS 10.2.8 or later.

Upgrade Required

Computers in this category are beyond their useful life, and we urge you to replace them at the earliest opportunity. Meanwhile, if a computer has at least 512MB of memory and is running OS 10.2.8 or later, we will do our best to support you until an upgrade can be arranged.

Our recommended OS level is OS 10.4.x which requires machines of at least 1 GHz and 512 MB of memory (1 GB recommended) to provide adequate performance.
