Below are general guidelines for new computer purchases.

Please see Macintosh or PC to see support levels for current configurations along with upgrade/replacement recommendations.

• Desktop - Any Intel Dual or Quad Core processor
  • We recommend the Dell Optiplex series
• Laptop - Any Intel Core 2 Duo - 2 GHz or higher
  • We recommend the Dell Latitude series
• 2-4 GB Memory
• 256 MB Video card - (Windows Aero Capable for Windows Vista)
• 80 GB hard drive or larger
• CDRW-DVD Combo drive (DVD ± RW Recommended)
• 17" flat panel monitor + or 17" CRT or larger

• Windows XP Professional
• Surge Protector
• Useful accessories

  • Wireless card for access to URNET (for laptops)

* Faculty and staff who want to use Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro should be aware that there are a variety of conflicts between these versions of Windows and many of the University customized applications such as Mi$er, Kronos, etc.

Please consult with University IT before upgrading or ordering a machine with Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro if you access any University customized applications such as those listed on the Windows 2000 evaluation.
